The nose is the most defining characteristic of the face. When beautiful, it highlights the eyes, the mouth, and the cheeks. When the nose is out of proportion, the whole face becomes less appealing. This is why a nose surgery (rhinoplasty) at Contour Aesthetic Center can have such a huge effect on one’s appearance and self image.
Rhinoplasty usually takes one to two hours, though more complicated procedures may take longer. The surgery starts with the skin of the nose being separated from its supporting framework so the bone and cartilage are exposed, allowing them to be sculpted into the desired shape. The skin is then re-draped over the new framework. After the surgery is complete, Dr. Heidari will apply a splint to help the nose maintain its new shape while it heals. Nasal packs or soft splints may be placed in the nostrils to stabilize the septum during recovery.
After surgery, during the first twenty-four hours, the face will feel puffy, the nose may ache, and you may experience a dull headache. You should plan on resting with your head elevated for the first day. There will be swelling and bruising around the eyes, reaching a peak after two to three days. Usually after seven to ten days all packing, dressings, splints, and stitches can be removed. Final results may take additional six months to a year.
