Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery at Contour Aesthetic Center in Upland, can enhance your appearance and self-confidence by opening up your upper face and eliminating the tired look. As people age, the eyelid stretches, muscles weaken, and fat accumulates around the eyes, causing “bags” or excess skin to become prominent.
The ideal candidates for eyelid surgery are men and women who are physically healthy and 35 years old or older. However, if sagging eyelids run in your family, it may be advisable to have eyelid surgery at a younger age. Lost during the aging process, facial fat restoration is often performed along with eyelid rejuvenation via facial fat transfer through micro-cannula. During your consultation with Dr. Heidari will assess whether both upper and lower eyelids need improvement for the best aesthetic results.
During eyelid surgery, Dr. Heidari will make an incision following the natural lines of your eye, then remove fat deposits, tighten muscles and remove excess skin. Dr. Heidari performs eyelid surgery under general or local anesthesia. If done under local anesthesia, he will numb the area around your eyes, along with giving you a mild oral or IV sedative. The surgery takes one to two hours.
Laser eyelid surgery is the latest technique in cosmetic eyelid surgery. Dr. Heidari uses the latest laser skin resurfacing techniques to further tighten the skin around your eyelids safely. This technique limits the skin removal when indicated, therefore decreasing risks of eyeball exposure and dryness that sometimes occur after the traditional eyelid surgery. As with any procedure, there may be complications. Minor complications that commonly follow eyelid surgery include double or blurred vision for a few days. This is caused by swelling at the corner of the eyelids and the slight asymmetry in healing or scarring. Following surgery, some patients may have difficulty closing their eyes when they sleep for a few days. Adhering to Dr. Heidari’s advice on pre- and post-op care will greatly reduce the risk of complications. If for some reason you experience a complication, Dr. Heidari and the staff at Contour Aesthetic Center are here to help correct it and care for you every step of the way.
After surgery, you will feel tightness in your eyelids. A cold compress and elevating the head will help keep the swelling and bruising down. For the first few weeks following the procedure, you may experience excessive tearing, sensitivity to light, and temporary changes in your vision such as blurring or double vision. Bruising lasts one to two weeks depending upon your skin type. Stitches will be removed four to six days after your surgery.
